THE FIRST COMPREHENSIVE MONOGRAPH FROM ARTIST IAN STRANGE
‘Disturbed Home’, a comprehensive monograph released by Italian publisher Damiani, surveys the provocative architectural interventions of Ian Strange. The leading Australian contemporary artist’s practice explores architecture, space, and the home through photography, sculpture, installation, site-specific works, film, and documentary works. From his native Australia, to New Zealand, Japan, Poland, and the United States, Strange’s provocative transformations of damaged or abandoned homes unlock themes of social upheaval and geographic displacement caused by a variety of factors, including economic blight, environmental disaster, and social migrations. The book takes a deep dive into some of the artist’s most significant architectural works over the past 12-years, with lucid commentary and original imagery of these distinct structural interventions and explorations of ‘home’.

Damiani releases survey of the artist’s PROVOCATIVE interventions
Published by Damiani, ‘Disturbed Home’ deconstructs Ian Strange’s ongoing global body of work, featuring photographic and filmic interpretations of his most distinguished projects. The book includes scholarly essays addressing Strange’s practice within traditions of photography, film, public sculpture, installation, and dance performance – with words from the FotoFocus Biennal’s artistic director and curator Kevin Moore, as well as Britt Salvesen, curator and head of the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department and the Prints and Drawings Department at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
‘It’s been a huge honour to work with Kevin Moore and Damiani to reflect on the past 12-years of my career – and to have the chance to assemble my major photographic works into a single volume,’ says Strange. ‘The book, alongside Britt Salvesen and Kevin Moore’s new texts, has allowed me to unpack each photographic and film work, show each works scale, and capture the communities behind these projects, beyond what’s possible in a single exhibition.’
