the ‘hydra’ concept e-bike is powered by hydrogen fuel cells

‘hydra’: a zero-emission and hydrogen-powered e-bike

Designer trio Anton Guzhov, Anton Brousseau, and André Taylforth recently shared their vision for ‘Hydra,’ a concept e-bike powered by the most abundant resource out there: H20. While traditional motorcycles run on lithium-ion batteries, this hypothetical ride is powered by hydrogen fuel cells, therefore emitting only heat and water instead of toxic fumes or leaking battery acids. While checking all the boxes in the sustainability department, it remains to be seen whether this zero-emission electric bike can further expand into a sellable product.

exuding cyberpunk aesthetics

To simulate the workings of ‘Hydra,’ the designers used Blender 3Dan open-source computer graphics software dedicated to VR, visual effects, 3D modeling, and much more. The result is a hyper-real and atmospheric video depicting the e-bike being assembled and then traveling across an industrial, dystopian-like setting.

While not mentioned directly by the trio, the motorcycle exudes cyberpunk aesthetics with its robot-like structure and bulky shell coated in carbon fiber. The hydrogen fuel cells are located at the front, hence the voluminous boxy shape, while the engine is placed beneath the seat with a cantilevering form.

The designers have also released a sneak peek of their Hydra A001 platform concept model — revealing more robotic references and a less robust outline. To find out more about the project, you can head to the Instagram pages of GuzhovBrousseau, and Taylforth
